Public policy expert Steve Aos will give keynote address at Spokane Smart Justice Symposium on November 9th.
The Smart Justice Spokane campaign is announcing that Steve Aos, the director of the Washington State Institute for Public Policy will keynote the Smart Justice Symposium at the Northern Quest Resort & Casino on November. Among those also scheduled to participate in the event are Spokane Mayor David Condon, the city’s new police chief, Frank Straub, and Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich. The panelists and presenters also include Superior Court judges Harold Clarke III and Maryanne Moreno, and District Court judges Debra Hayes, Mary Logan and retired District Court judge Richard White.
Aos has more than three decades experience in public policy research. His keynote talk is entitled: Putting Research Evidence and Economics to Work: Policies to Reduce Crime and Save Tax Dollars.
“The timing for the symposium is ideal,” says Spokane attorney and former Center for Justice executive director Breean Beggs. “Everyone agrees that the current system could work better and money is tight, so proven reforms are the answer. We’re on the cusp of major reforms that could save budgets, people’s lives and public safety for decades.”
CFJ volunteer lawyer Mary Lou Johnson, will moderate a mid-morning panel discussion entitled “Money Well Spent.”
