Four More Months

Facing heat from the City Council, the Mayor extends police Ombudsman Tim Burns’s contract through end of year.

In advance of tonight’s council meeting—at which the City Council was likely to approve resolution opposing his decision to excuse Ombudsman Tim Burns next month—Spokane Mayor David Condon has announced he’s now in favor of extending Burns’s contract to the end of this year.

In a press release issued earlier today the Mayor provided the following statement

“We are on track to enhance civilian oversight of the Spokane Police Department, and this new timeline will allow for greater discussion and thoughtfulness.”

The council is expected to ratify the extension at tonight’s legislative session.
