When’s the last time you played hooky? Really, think about it, when is the last time you blew off work with barely any notice or premeditation? Make this Thursday be that day and JOIN ME, in skipping work to go fishing in honor of Waterkeeper Alliance and Spokane Riverkeeper’s Clean Water Act 40 Fishable Waters Action Day.
On Thursday, June 21st Spokane Riverkeeper will be joining Waterkeepers from around the U.S. to raise awareness regarding the importance of fishable waters and what that means to the health and well being of our community. Our goal and my goal is to promote access to clean, fishable waters and to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Clean Water Act - a year-long awareness campaign you’ve no doubt heard me talk about here on this blog and elsewhere simply as CWA40.
What better way to talk about fishable waters and the importance of clean water and our right as citizens to be able to go to our local waterway, catch a fish and eat that fish without worrying about the toxins or pollutants that may poison us then to walk the walk. So I’m doing just that, and I think you should join me.
This Thursday, I’m skipping work to go fishing. And you know what, I think you should too.
So here’s what I want to see happen.
I want you to arrange your fishing gear, pack a lunch, maybe grab some cold ones, and head out to your favorite fishing spot. Let your inbox fill up and forget about your fantasy baseball team. This Thursday it’s you, your fishing rod and your favorite fishing hole. But there’s a catch… no pun intended. Notice how I didn’t say leave your phone at home. Thanks to the awesome support of Dry Fly Distillery, maker of the finest spirits in the land, we want to offer a prize to the best Fishable Day fishing picture we see on Thursday. So we’re running a photo contest.
Spokane Rivekreeper Fishable Waters Action Day Photo Contest
1) Skip work and go fishing
2) Snap a pic of the waters you’re fishing in, the fish you catch or anything else from your Fishable Waters Action Day fishing trip
3) Submit the pic on the Spokane Rivekeeper Facebook page, Tweet the pic to @SpokaneRiverKpr with hashtag #riverkeeperfishingday or upload it to Instagram with the tag #riverkeeperfishingday
4) We’ll vote on the best picture and the winner will receive a prize from Spokane Riverkeeper and Dry Fly
*because I want to see a ton of photos, and because the weather is shaping up to be awesome this week, I’m going to accept photos through Monday, June 25th.
What do you say – who’s in?
