Spokane: Near Nature, Near Perfect. Unfortunately that tagline draws instant laughs because of all the jokes and attention it generated, but you know, it’s kind of starting to grow on me.
Probably because it’s so damn true. Take this video for example – it’s presumable shot from one of those helmet cameras. It’s of a boater in a raft taking a trip down the Spokane River from Barker to Sullivan Road. The put-in at Barker is no more than 15 minutes from downtown Spokane. If you showed this video to someone that didn’t know the area, they probably wouldn’t believe you that these people in the video are that close to a metropolitan area.
That’s what’s great about Spokane. You’re that close to a beautiful and fun stretch of river. And I can attest, as I’ve ran this stretch several times this summer – just this last Saturday actually.
Get out there Spokane – you’re that near nature.
