If you missed seeing RFK Jr in Spokane (or Sandpoint) last month tune in to Spokane’s Thin Air Community Radio Station – KYRS – on Friday, June 10th from 12 Noon to approximately 1:30 to hear his speech played in its entirety. That and other ways to relive the moment.
It’s hard to believe, but it’s been two weeks since Robert F. Kennedy Jr spoke in Spokane. Now that we’ve settled back in to reality, we’re pleased to roll out this very special package so you can relive the moment, or catch it for the first time. But first, please read this wonderful recap of the event from the extraordinary Tim Connor. Tim wrote up a wonderful piece the evening of the event, but his new piece, “RFK, Jr., in Spokane, A Postscript”, is two-weeks in the making as he allowed himself ample time to reflect on all that was said that Thursday evening in Spokane. It truly is a must-read in every sense of the phrase.
Now that you’ve read that, here is what we have planned:
First, as the headline reads, next Friday you will have the first opportunity to hear RFK Jr’s speech in it’s entirety. We’re thrilled to work in partnership with KYRS, Thin Air Community Radio – Spokane’s only community radio station – to offer listeners in Spokane an opportunity to spend their lunch break listening to this tour de force of a speech, from one of the best in the business. If you live in the Spokane area you can find KYRS on the FM dial at 89.9 FM or best heard on 92.3 FM. For those outside the frequency range, you can stream KYRS online at www.kyrs.org. Just click on the “Listen” button on the upper right of the page. If you need help remembering, RSVP to the event on Facebook so it shows up on your FB homepage. Here’s a quote from Tim from his aforementioned piece that nicely recaps what RFK Jr’s May 19th speech was about:
“Whether the Spokane audience expected it or not, what they got was a deeply piercing critique of corporate immorality and the corruption of American government. If some dose of optimism was required to avoid sending hundreds of people out into the streets in despair, Kennedy injected it near the end with his hope that the free market can save us—if we can break the headlock that corporate interests have placed on our government. One fleeting thought I’ve had, since, is that RFK, Jr. is what Che Guevara might sound like today if Che, in middle age, had learned English and become a venture capitalist.”
Second. Following Friday the 10th, the entire speech will be available in Podcast and MP3 streaming form at KYRS’s podcast page which can be found at
http://www.kyrs.org/podcasts.cfm. Stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter pages for the announcement when that is up and live.
Third. Video of the Spokane event including the entire RFK Jr speech and the introductory speeches by Mayor Mary Verner, Jim Whittaker and yours truly will be available on the Spokane Riverkeeper website later this month. Stay tuned to www.spokaneriverkeeper.org and to the aforementioned Facebook and Twitter pages.
And finally, and probably what you’ve all been waiting for. I’m pleased to release to the masses the soon to be viral video sensation, “The Riverkeeper and the Redband Trout”. If you were at the event you were no doubt just as surprised as I was with this Hamilton Studio production video that played between when Mayor Verner spoke and when I spoke. You don’t believe me that I was surprised? Well little did most people know, but the moment the crowd saw the video was also the first moment that I saw the video. I had seen clips, but never the whole thing put together. Needless to say I was more than impressed and proud of the production and I’m even more proud to be able to share it with you all. It’s a fun little video to help you get a better sense of what we do here as the Spokane Riverkeeper. Enjoy!
