Besieged by Sea Shepherd Society attacks, the Japanese whaling fleet temporarily suspends whaling activities off Antarctica.
The Associated Press is reporting that a Japanese whaling fleet’s plan to kill nearly 1,000 whales in the ocean off Antarctica has been put on hold. AP says the suspension occurred last week after the whaling fleet endured attacks from Sea Shepherd Society activists who, among other things, reportedly hurled bottles filled with rancid butter onto the Japanese ships.
The “Whale War” exploits of the Sea Shepherd Society have been chronicled on the Animal Planet cable station for the past three years. Although there is a world-wide ban on commercial whaling, the Japanese regularly kill hundreds of whales under a “research” exception to the ban.
