America’s Great Outdoors initiative

The Obama administration has launched the America’s Great Outdoors Initiative.  Here is your chance to thank the President and the administration for their vision, and to encourage them to prioritize the Spokane River and other rivers in this initiative.

Judging by the increased volunteer turnout and success of the Spokane River Clean-up, and the fact that other groups in the community are organizing clean-up efforts along different  stretches of the river, it’s safe to say our community understands the value of a clean Spokane River.  If you do, now is your chance to share your personal story of connection, admiration and success.

American Rivers is urging citizens all over the county to tell President Obama to prioritize rivers in his America’s Great Outdoors Initiative.

America’s Great Outdoors is a new initiative from the Obama administration aimed at promoting recreation and conservation of our precious natural resources.

American Rivers is leading the effort to ensure river protection and restoration, including the creation of Blue Trails, is a centerpiece of the initiative.  A blueway, also known as blue trail or water trail, is a dedicated stretch of river that enjoys special clean water safeguards and is a destination for fishing, boating, and other recreation. Just as a hiking trail is designed to help people explore the land, a blueway helps people discover rivers, and connect communities with the outdoors.

Take a few minutes to write President Obama and the administration and tell them why the Spokane River is important to you, and that you would like to see better access.  The best form of education on river issues and stewardship is getting out and enjoying the river.  With better accessibility, we can foster many more Spokane River stewards.  You can send a pre-written letter by filling out the form HERE.  You can also personalize that letter (recommended) and share it on Facebook, Twitter and digg.
