Sotomayer Confirmed by Senate

Only nine Republicans vote to confirm Sonia Sotomayor to be the first Hispanic and third woman on the U.S. Supreme Court.

By a vote of 68-31, the U.S. Senate has confirmed President Barack Obama’s selection to fill the seat of the retiring Justice Judge Sonia SotomayerDavid H. Souter. Sotomayer, who grew up in a Bronx housing project, will the first Hispanic and third woman to serve on the nation’s highest court.
