A Fine and Pleasant Soaking

Thanks to Peter Grubb and ROW Adventures, the Center’s new Spokane Riverkeeper program gets a ceremonial launch through the white water of the Bowl & Pitcher and the Devil’s Toenail.

The rambling and very well autographed school bus that ROW Adventures uses was nearly full last Thursday evening when we set off to raft the scenic and occasionally rambunctious stretch of the Spokane River below T.J. MeenachPeter Grubb at the Devil's Toenail. bridge. The outing marked the ceremonial launch of the new Spokane Riverkeeper project led by Riverkeeper Rick Eichstaedt who, for the past five years, has been the Center’s lead water lawyer.

Our host for the excursion, which included raucous rides through the Bowl & Pitcher and  Devil’s Toenail, was renowned river outfitter Peter Grubb and ROW Adventures. Peter, as of this month, is also a Center for Justice board member.

Among those joining us for the trip were Spokane Mayor Mary Verner, city councilman Richard Rush, CFJ founder Jim Sheehan and board members Fred Peck and Rosetta Rhodes.

In a stroke of good fortune, a big brown truck delivered a waterproof video recorder just hours before the outing otherwise we’d be stuck with the dryness of words. Needless to say, I’m still getting used to the camera. httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oi6M8HCo3JU&fmt=22

Special thanks to my daughter, Audrey Connor, for taking time away from her final exams this weekend to edit the raw video.

If you’d like to take the trip, in person, visit the ROW Adventures website and select a day that works for you.
