What Pierce found attractive about Meg was mostly the way in which she set herself off from her crowd. Not that she couldn’t have fun with her twin sister and their gaggle of friends, and not that she didn’t. But she did clearly bail and exit from time to time, to walk her own walk and to quell the fire of their laughter which she knew, at times, to be misdirected and a little cruel. Sometimes she did this by pretending to be distracted by a broken shoe, a cramp in her shoulder, or an object in the grass. Sometimes she just pointed herself in a compass direction and walked toward it, without explanation. You could tell there was an independent streak at work, even if you didn’t know what, exactly, was the inspiration for it.
The other thing Pierce found attractive were the ringlet curls in her hair. Yeah, those and the way they tangled with her earrings and glasses. Cute.
