Singing satirist Roy Zimmerman to do April 18th benefit for Center for Justice.
Nationally-acclaimed satirist Roy Zimmerman will be in town April 18th to perform his show, “Roy Zimmerman: Real American.” The ninety minute concert will be at the Community Building, 35 W. Main Street beginning at 7:30 p.m. with proceeds benefiting the Center for Justice. Admission is $15 at the door.
The “Real American” show is a compilation of Zimmerman’s bitingly humorous songs about ignorance, war, and greed. It features new material along with some of the gems from Roy’s popular pre-election tour which included a raucous show in Spokane last August 19th. Zimmerman drove 12,000 miles and flew 12,000 more to do 107 shows in 47 states before the 2008 election. The marathon tour included events at both the Democratic and Republican national conventions as well as a series of “Sing Out the Vote Ohio” concerts with activist folk singer Holly Near.
Zimmerman’s songs are regularly heard on National Public Radio, Air America and Sirius Radio. His YouTube videos have attracted over two million views and tens of thousands of comments.
“In this election,” says Zimmerman, “we heard a lot about ‘Real America’ as exemplified by Joe, whose name isn’t Joe, the Plumber, who’s not a plumber.”
In one of his new songs, Zimmerman imagines what Joe “the Plumber” Wurzelbacher’s hit single might sound like.
