The Inlander’s Kevin Taylor looks behind the Commercial Building story and finds the good work of CFJ intern Barry Pfundt.
It’s not quite news yet, but, yes, it does appear like a settlement is shaping up that will resolve the Commercial Building controversy. This is the case dating back two years where the eviction of low income tenants from the building to make room for what was then BlueRay technologies grabbed public attention. It also grabbed our attention, and it certainly got Barry Pfundt’s attention. Barry was a first year intern at the Center for Justice at the time, and as Kevin Taylor reports in this weeks
edition of the Pacific Northwest Inlander, the situation really got his goat and inspired his work on the case, which the Center brought on behalf of two men evicted from the building.
BlueRay is now Bluestar and, as Taylor reports, Bluestar has now come forward with a settlement proposal that would re-open nearly fifty apartments in the building for low-income housing. The deal’s not quite done, but it’s headed in a good direction. In any event, it’s great to see Barry’s work getting the recognition it and he deserve.
